Our arrival into Paris was a tad stressful as Christine had accidentally purchased a ticket for the wrong flight. Fortunately, from that point on it was relatively smooth sailing. Plus, on the second day we were shown the sights by someone who is actually fluent in the language (hooray for foreign flatmates!). Best to not have to rely on my pidgin French - though my high school lessons got me a lot further than expected.
Total miles walked*: 20 mi
*excluding walking around stores/parks/to and from train station
Food
Jambon - ham sandwich made by the gods. While perhaps overpriced, the Tuileries is an excellent place to people watch as you inhale (I mean, eat) your sandwich.
Red wine - fermented grapes count as one of my five-a-day right?
Champagne - apparently a must whilst traveling in France (at least according to an arbitrary online source).
Macarons - definitely worth the hype and crazy markup for this ridiculously small cookie. Now I have a concrete reason to make millions in the future.
Sights
Eiffel Tower - highly suggest picnicking in front of it at sunset. It's a great way to see hundreds of tourists awkwardly pausing with insincere smiles.
Arc de Triomphe - fun fact: as a resident of the EU (even if it's only for 6 months) you get to climb for free. So you get the same great view of the city as the Eiffel Tower except that it's actually included in the skyline.
Notre Dame - not too shabby as far as old churches go. Plus, if you're feeling especially sacrilegious, you can take one of you previously purchased macarons as communion.
Pont Neuf - the lock bridge. Part of me wishes there was someone whose job it is to cut off all locks that didn't end up lasting "4ever"
