In Loving Memory:
Sad that we parted ways with Maxine, but fortunately our trio will reunite with her again in Florence. Total miles walked: 5mi
We left early for Brussels by train. Christine suffered serious battle scars in her attempts to snag breakfast from our stingy hostel. Fortunately, her sacrifice was not in vain, and we all reaped the benefits of her efforts. The train ride was short, and I encountered yet another person who thought I was French. Their assumption was met with an unyielding blank stare on my part as my elementary French vocabulary failed me, yet again.
Food
Chocolate - pro tip: no need to go into a fancy shmancy chocolatier shop (except perhaps for some free samples & and annoyed glances from the employees), as the stuff sold in the supermarket is equally delicious and WAY cheaper
Frites - french fries with mayo. Gee, I can't imagine why I'm not losing any weight on this trip..
Waffle - unlike fries, the nation associated with this beauty actually makes a noticeably better version
Produce dinner - as our diet has seriously been lacking any modicum of "five-a-days" we chose to get back to basics and stick to fresh fruits and veggies
Sights
Grand Place - something straight out of a Grimm fairy tale (except, you know, Flemish and not German)
Manneken Pis - because nothing screams national landmark quite like a peeing statue you dress up.
Flea Market - great place to pick up random junk the vendors couldn't be bothered to put back in their trucks. Souvenirs anyone?
