Feels necessary to draw up a list of quintessentially British things to do whilst abroad. Otherwise, how will I know if I enjoyed myself while I am here??
1. Get a pint at a pub.
2. Eat fish & chips and bangers and mash. Though for the sake of your bowels, I highly suggest spreading the two experiences out a bit. Pubs aren't especially big on green vegetables. (British cuisine [particularly that of the pub variety] is pretty resolutely stuck in their WWII past. You know, the period where they carried on all calm and whatnot? Which is great, but it does not embody the most nutritious of standards. To be fair, it's hard to worry about your 'five-a-day' when a deluge of bombs are pelting your city on a daily basis. But a love for your past is still no excuse for perpetuating the travesty that is mushy peas. Because trust me when I say, they definitely don't count as sufficient 'veg').
3. Authentic cream tea. Got to have a least one item that is moderately posh.
4. Indian food. They might be seriously lacking in the Mexican food department (see my post here for photographic proof), but they can make some top notch curry.
5. Post-drinking kebabs. Rumored to satisfy the most acute cases of 'drunchies'.
6. To be continued...
[I'm sure I'll come up with at least a couple items that aren't food related. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments. *tumbleweed blows through comments section*]
